Simple crochet patterns will usually call for the basic stitches, standard used hooks and small number balls of yarn. Basically, the patterns would require you to do motifs and stitches all over again. Through the simplicity of the pattern, you will suddenly feel yourself engrossed at first then getting bored a little since you are doing the same things over and over. You only get your adrenaline back when you still have a few more stitches to go before finally finishing the project.
You may have started with a doily, a pillow cover or a shawl. These are quite simple to make especially that their patterns are repetitive and consistent. But then, you can try the patterns which are complex but only if you are ready. Complex patterns have more than stitches than the Simple Crochet Patterns, often requiring the crocheter to do a lot of types of stitches in a row.
Try your yarn and hook on something bigger. Crochet a shoe or a toy. The possibility of creating projects from simple crochet patterns and the advanced ones is endless.
